Covenant Congregational Church of Boston, MA is seeking candidates for the position of Director of Music Ministry. The focal point of activity in our church is the worship of God, ministry to all believers, and holistic outreach to the community and beyond. BACKGROUND
Covenant Congregational Church of Boston is an Evangelical Covenant Church (www.covchurch.org) located in the dynamic and diverse neighborhood of Jamaica Plain. With a Swedish heritage, the congregation has grown more diverse and reflective of the racial and ethnic diversity of Boston. We are an intergenerational, multi-ethnic church and we celebrate the different gifts members bring to the Body of Christ.

POSITION SUMMARY
Covenant Congregational Church is seeking a Director of Music Ministry to draw on his/her faith in Christ to lead the music ministries of the church, which include; directing the adult choir (and possibly children’s choir), playing organ and piano during Sunday worship, encouraging the development and participation of musicians and singers, helping plan worship services, and helping lead the church in expanding our musical styles to include gospel/contemporary music as well as hymns on organ, to better reflect the diversity of our congregation and community. The position will commence September 2008. Salary range is $12,000-16,000 depending on education and experience for 15 hours per week. People of color are encouraged to apply.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will demonstrate that he/she is:

• Trained in playing the organ or piano for public worship, especially in leading a group of people in singing hymns and spiritual songs.
• Skilled as a director who is able to recruit, train and nurture singers as well as other musicians.
• Experienced as a team player, willing to work as a team with the pastor and lay people to select music and plan worship experiences.
• Strong sight-reading skills and able to accompany hymns on organ or piano in classical style as well as play praise/gospel choruses in contemporary/gospel style.
• Evidence of Christian faith in keeping with the Covenant Affirmations.
